Calculate cost per completed video view and video completion rate together. Use the same completed-view definition when comparing campaigns, formats or platforms.
CPCV and VTR Calculator
Enter completed views plus cost for CPCV, or completed views plus impressions for VTR.
Compare managed CPCV with self-service CPM
Use the same currency for both prices. The comparison translates outcome pricing into an equivalent CPM at your expected response rate.
Cost-only comparison. Consider service, creative, data, technology, minimum-spend and operational differences separately.
What are CPCV and VTR?
CPCV is the average cost of each completed video view. VTR is the percentage of ad impressions that resulted in a completed view.
CPV can refer to a platform-specific paid-view event that occurs before completion. This calculator uses completed views so the cost metric and completion rate share a consistent outcome. If your platform reports CPV, check its view threshold before comparing it with CPCV.
CPCV and VTR formulas
- CPCV = Cost ÷ Completed views
- VTR = (Completed views ÷ Ad impressions) × 100
Video campaign example
A campaign spends $1,000, serves 200,000 ad impressions and generates 50,000 completed views. Its CPCV is $0.02 and its VTR is 25%.
Compare managed CPCV with self-service CPM
Open the comparison section to translate a managed CPCV quote into its equivalent CPM at an expected VTR. This shows the video completion rate a self-service CPM campaign needs to match the managed outcome price.
- Managed CPCV equivalent CPM = CPCV × VTR (%) × 10
- Self-service CPCV = CPM ÷ (VTR (%) × 10)
- Break-even VTR = CPM ÷ (CPCV × 10)
For example, a $15 self-service CPM at a 40% VTR produces a $0.0375 CPCV. A managed offer of $0.03 CPCV at the same VTR is equivalent to a $12 CPM. The self-service campaign would need a 50% VTR to match the $0.03 managed CPCV.
Compare like with like. Video duration, skippability, autoplay behavior, sound state, placement and the platform’s view definition can materially change completion performance.
