Choose an action, then enter actions plus cost for CPA or actions plus opportunities for conversion rate.
What are CPA and conversion rate?
CPA is the average media cost of each selected action. Depending on the action, it may also be described as CPI for an install, CPL for a lead, cost per landing, cost per purchase or cost per registration.
Conversion rate is the percentage of eligible opportunities that produced the selected action. The denominator may be clicks, landing-page visits, sessions or another opportunity measure, so state it clearly when reporting the result.
CPA and conversion-rate formulas
- CPA = Cost ÷ Actions
- Conversion rate = (Actions ÷ Opportunities) × 100
Conversion example
A campaign spends $1,200, generates 4,000 landing-page visits and records 80 purchases. Its cost per purchase is $15 and its visit-to-purchase conversion rate is 2%.
Choose a meaningful action
Use the same action definition, attribution window and opportunity denominator when comparing campaigns. A low CPA is only valuable when the tracked action is valid and contributes to the campaign’s business objective.
The calculator reports media cost per action. If you need a fully loaded acquisition cost, add any relevant creative, data, technology, agency and operational costs separately.
