How-to: DV360 Plans

Did you know you can do more than activate campaigns on DV360? It has quite a robust set of features available for other tasks, like media planning and reporting/analysis.

What is DV360 Plans?

Plans is a feature within Campaign where you can try out different formats, tactics, inventory types, and targeting options without impacting your actual campaign. It is catered to media planners or anyone planning within the same platform their traders/activation counterparts use for seamless collaboration.

An added benefit of this feature is that you’re able to

  • Screenshot the Reach Plan for your strategy decks
  • Export it as a CSV file when you are done if you prefer the Excel format
  • Immediately convert the Plan into an actual campaign setup for activation after approval

Why use DV360 Plans?

There are three key benefits, which are

  1. Forecast reach across your campaigns
  2. Discover new inventory & publishers
  3. Assemble a comprehensive plan that can be converted into an actual campaign setup.

Today, we will be focusing on how you can forecast reach for a basic display and video open market campaign.

Creating an Open Auction Plan

  1. Ensure you are in the Advertiser view. Navigate to Inventory > Plans.
  2. Select your Geo & general Demographics for the campaign
  3. Add Ad Formats. Click on “Open Auction”.
  4. Select “Open auction display” and/or “Open auction video” and input your desired budgets.
  5. This gives you a generic reach plan, which is quite comprehensive with the metrics in the UI.

  6. Configure Targeting to make your plan more specific to your needs.

Example of an Open Auction Plan

As you can see, there are many targeting/settings that you can configure to get an accurate view of your planning purpose.

The screenshot below is an example output for the following plan:

  • Geo: Singapore
  • Formats: Display & Video
  • Budget: $5.13k (Display), $2.87k (Video)
  • Targeting: Soccer Fans (Display), Soccer Contextual (Video)
  • Demo: 18-34
  • Frequency cap: 3/week (Display), 1/week (Video)
  • CPM cap: $5 (Video)

You can further tweak the budget allocation or the assigned budget to see your on-target reach. Such changes will give you insight into whether investing more budget in the plan or specific format will benefit your brand through incremental reach.

That’s all for now! We do offer media planning services using this DV360 tool and can help you get started. The first one is free. Just drop us a note at info@programmaticsoup.com.
